Travels without Aunts!

Dear Roses, Recently I (Aunty Verve) travelled to the USA. It was quite strange not having the sisters with me.  There was no twirling or Tiddling Tales, but it was fantastic! It confirmed that I need to keep getting out there, sisters or no! Visiting New York and New Orleans was exciting.  Something I wanted to do forever. The Aunties came along in spirit, even set some challenges. Drink Manhattans in Manhattan! (a very pleasurable challenge) Walk... Read More

It’s a Blurrr…

Aunty Verve here. You won’t see me in many photos.  It’s not necessarily that I don’t want to be in them (mostly), it’s just that when I ask someone else to take one for me, it invariably ends up a blur. Example one: I love to travel and on a trip to NZ,  all I wanted was a photo of me at Mitre Peak, Milford Sound. I used to cut out pictures from magazines and travel brochures and put them in my scrapbook of places I loved and wanted... Read More

First Train From Ratville

The fur of my coat collar tickled my neck as I snuggled into it waiting for the train. The diehards were already here – automatons with coffee (not a judgment, rather the observation of one who has been there – back in the day). The air gathered visibly as I sighed loudly, I could hear the cold. The sun cut a swath through the grey-blue tone of the sky and burst into a loud giggle that hurt my eyes. The train approached, its awesomeness... Read More

My little sister in Bali

Those who know her, would describe Aunty Mod as a bit of a ‘go-getter’; seriously, I believe she was born with my share of energy as well as her own. Now Mod is one busy lady and when she arrived in Bali, several days after my own arrival (I needed a rest before she got there), her list of expectations was very long! Some list ‘must do’s’ included; trying lots of different Indonesian food, hot-stone treatment, see traditional... Read More

Bali, Bali, Bali

This time next week I will be sitting by (or in) the pool, gasping at the heat and excitedly awaiting the arrival of my four sisters, sister in law and three nieces (and the arrival of my Bin Tang and spring rolls, yum)! I’ve been planning this trip since the middle of last year, reason? I turned 50 in January and we always do a bit of a girls ‘thing’ for our 50th’s. Going to Bali is pushing the benchmark quite far out, but somehow it has... Read More

‘this is not a holiday camp you know!’

this was Dad’s favourite saying when we were growing up was which he would say every time he found us not ‘working’… so every few minutes… however his concept of ‘holiday camp’ has changed a lot over the years, especially since he retired. Okay mum and dad were heading interstate for a holiday…   Date: Sat, 4 Jun 2011 20:35:16 +1000 Subject: airport antics mum and dad go to maccas for breakfast so they didn’t dirty... Read More

The town everyone forgot…

Last weekend I spent 2 days in Gundagai with my man, and were so very pleasantly surprised. I had driven past Gundagai many times over the years but had never driven into the town. Arguably best known from the song “track winding back”, there is also much history to this lovely town on the Murrumbidgee. Floods, the relocating of the town up into the hills, Captain Moonlight (heralding from Co Tyrone in Northern Ireland like our Dad), the... Read More

Mum Sayings

"I wonder what the poor people are doing?"
"Did you see anyone you liked better than yourself?"
"I've had that new coat forever."
"Go on, you deserve it."
